Have Questions?
The den and the pack rely on parent participation to run a successful program. Cub Scouting operates through volunteer leadership. Volunteer leaders are an example of Scouting’s principle of service to others. By volunteering in Scouting, you are also giving your child and family the gift of your time. What could be more valuable? You will have an opportunity to be a positive influence in their life and in the lives of their friends.
We cannot do it without you. Every current leader is also just a parent who said yes to supporting the pack via a volunteer role.
What happens if roles aren’t filled? The duties are either absorbed onto another registered leader’s task list or they don’t get done. Overloading our current registered leaders will lead to burnout. A LITTLE help has a LOT of impact.
Think you can do part of a role? Find someone to split it with you. See a need that’s not listed, but that you can help fill? Let us know!

Look at the Pack 171 Leadership Roles document. We do our best to keep the Pack Leaders page up-to-date with filled and unfilled roles; check with a pack leader if you're not sure about a position.
Submit the Pack Volunteer Interest form HERE and a Committee member will get back to you.
Complete the Scouting America requirements. All registered leaders will need to register as an adult leader with Scouting America (through the same website you registered your child), complete Safeguarding Youth Training, and complete position-specific training (will login to My.Scouting.org).

Here are some ideas of other ways to help out the pack.
Take a look through the Adventures for your Scout's den and ask your Scout's den leader or the Cubmaster if there's an adventure you can help lead. Skilled at building box derby cars? Are you an astronomer at heart? Know a thing or two about computers? Love to use kitchen gadgets or play marbles? Great at teaching kids about applying math to everyday situations? Do you think the Earth "rocks"? Have a medical background? These are just a few examples of neat Adventures that Scouts would love to learn from you.
Support an event with your time and talents. Can you coordinate the Cubsgiving potluck or cookie exchange? Help decorate for the Pinewood Derby or Blue and Gold? Make awards for Rank Advancement? Set up before an event or meeting? Are you great at sourcing donations? Something else entirely? Talk to a pack leader or sign up on BAND as events are planned.
Have a connection somewhere interesting that doesn't mind visitors? Help connect the pack to cool go-see-ems (field trips). Some of our favorite go-see-ems have come about because somebody got us connected with the right person.
Snap photos at events and share them on BAND! Help us capture the memories of our year.
