Capitol Area Council Scout Shop (When you shop locally, 100% of your purchase supports Scouting here in Central Texas. Shipping is available.)
We have a Uniform Closet with new and gently-used pieces that have been passed down from previous families. Before heading to the Scout Shop, check it out.
Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and other online marketplaces frequently have Scout uniforms and handbooks available. Just make sure to check the year on any handbooks, as the program had an overhaul in 2024.
Please speak to your Den Leader, the Cubmaster, or a Committee member. We may have funds available as a pack or can guide you to a thriftier option. Additionally, payment plans may be available.
If we are unable to help as a pack, we may direct you to the Capitol Area Council Request for Financial Assistance form.
Cost of Cub Scouting (from Scouting America)
NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP: The National annual fee is $85**. For only $15 for the year, Cub Scouts may also subscribe to Scout Life magazine. (Important note: none of this fee stays with the pack) **Effective May 1, 2024
DUES: To cover the costs of awards and recognition, crafts, and special events, most packs have dues. We may offer opportunities to conduct fundraisers to offset these costs throughout the year. For the 2025-2026 program year, the dues for Pack 171 will be $85 for Cubs. The pack dues for adults will be $35.
TOTAL ANNUAL CUB DUES: $170 (plus processing fees)
HANDBOOK: Each grade level has a specific handbook they use. Handbooks are about $24 and are used for the year. Please check with your den leader as to if your den will be using the handbook this year before purchasing, or if there are handbooks in the Uniform Closet. Handbooks have all the required and elective adventures for each rank. Handbooks also serve as a Scout’s record of completing adventures. Please note that a new Cub Scout program was introduced in 2024; handbooks from before then will not be up-to-date.
UNIFORM: The uniform is a method of delivering the Scouting program. It shows that you are a member of a team. Each grade has a specific uniform; please see the Uniform page for more information. Our pack does have a Uniform Closet - reach out for more info. A Scout is Thrifty!
ACTIVITIES: Additional activities such as overnight campouts, field trips/go-see-ems, day camps, and resident camps may have additional costs associated with them. Detailed information can be provided by the local pack leadership.
Fall and spring campouts are usually an additional $10/person to cover meals.
The big summer campout is usually around $90/person.
We now have a Square store where you can pay directly for pack dues, extra Class B shirts, and more!
Our pack currently uses Wave to send other invoices directly to your email. Please check with the Treasurer about alternative methods of payment or payment plans.
We are currently looking for a Fundraising Chair. Interested in helping out the pack? Please fill out the volunteer interest form or chat with a pack leader.
In the past we have participated in:
