The uniform is recognizable, but it is not required. Shirts can be itchy and uncomfortable for children with sensory needs, and the many pieces can be hard to keep up with. Here are some ways to make it easier, listed in a Question/Response format.

Reminder: we are a waist-up pack! We do NOT require "official" pants, socks, shoes.

Q. My Cub says the Class A is itchy, hot, and uncomfortable, and they don't want to wear it.

Solution 1: Some of our Cubs like to wear a comfortable shirt, like a well-worn pack t-shirt underneath. If it gets too hot, they can take off the Class A and still be recognizable as a member of our pack. This is especially helpful when we are out in the community for safety reasons.

Solution 2: Instead of getting a brand-new shirt from the Scout Shop, look in our Uniform Closet or on E-Bay or other resale sites for a used shirt. The older the shirt, the more comfortable they usually are. Additionally, shirts from the 90s and 00s (the Oscar de la Renta years) are generally considered to be more comfortable due to the material used.

Solution 3: Wear just the neckerchief. The neckerchief is the universal uniform element across all of Scouting - even other countries! 

Q. My Cub is working on keeping track of all of the pieces of the uniform.

The Whole Uniform: Make a uniform organizer and put it in one easily visible location. For a faster solution, designate one tote or drawstring bag to be for Cub Scouts and stuff it all in. Hang it by your backpacks or in a coat closet, or somewhere else where it is off the ground.

Neckerchief Solution: Stitch it lightly to the Class A shirt, around the collar. Just a couple of quick stitches on each side will do (Maria T. can show you how). 

Slide Solutions: Tie the slide on or use a friendship knot instead.

Finally: LABEL EVERYTHING! When something gets left behind, as is typical for the age, it's easier to return it to the right Cub when a name is on it.
